SUCCESS STORY OF GRAM PANCHAYAT CHIMACHI WADI

Chimachi Wadi, a small village of 79 houses in Udgir taluka, has showed the way to the other gram panchayat in Latur district in effective implementation of Total Sanitation Campaign. It stood third in Maharashtra under Saint Gadgebaba Gram Swachchhata Abhiyan and it is the first village in Latur district to achieve the Nirmal Gram Puraskar.

No open defecation, effective sewerage management, providing health education etc. are the few areas where gram panchayat has done remarkable work. Cleanliness drive was taken by the villagers. In this individual cleanliness and environment cleanliness was particularly given priority. Toilets were provided to schools, Anganwadi and other government and non-government offices. Use of non-conventional energy sources and the implement of family welfare programmes were taken up effectively by the residents of Chimachi Wadi. Underground drainage system, processing and reusing of waste-water, Computerisation of gram panchayat, vermiculture projects are the other important features of developmental activities taken up at Chimachi Wadi.

In this way Chimachi Wadi, has become the symbolic light house for the development of Latur district. Many people from the district has visited Chimachi Wadi, got inspired from it and implemented the developmental activities in their respective villages.
