1) National Family Welfare Programme (NFWP) :-

 

This is the most important, top priority National Health Programme. The programme is implemented within the district by organizing weekly sterilization camps at every Primary Health Center and Rural Hospital/Sub District Hospitals. The Family Planning means not only sterilization operation but it refers to practices that help individuals or couples to attain broader objectives as follows.

a)            To avoid unwanted births.

b)            To bring about wanted births with respect to age of parents.

c)            To regulate interval between pregnancies.

Presently the services under NFWP are incorporated in reproductive and child health programme (RCH).

Contraceptive Services -
Copper T (Cu - T 380 A):- Previously in NFWP Cut 200 A was provided now a days it is replaced by Cu-T 380 A. It is safe & reliable method of contraception & it offers several advantages as listed below

It is highly effective method & effect starts immediately after insertion.

Once Cu-T is inserted it is effective for 10 yrs

It does not interfere in intercourse.

It does not affect breast feeding.

It can be removed when desired by the clients & fertility returns after its removal..

Eligibility Criteria - Any woman in reproductive age group who has at least one child, any woman who is breast feeding & have a child below 6 months, user should not have a history of pelvic Inflammatory Disease ( PID) & infection of upper genital tract.

Cu - T insertion to eligible women is done at sub center and PHC level by ANM/LHV. 

Condom Distribution - It is done at door step by ANM/MPW through their regular home visits. It is also done in OPDs. Oral contraceptive Pills (OCP) are advised to eligible lady after proper screening and counseling by ANM/LHV/MO PHC. 

Emergency Contraceptive Pills (ECP) -

Now-a-day ECPs are introduced under NFWP, which help to prevent unwanted pregnancy.

Benefits of ECP-

It prevents unwanted pregnancy.

Prevention of unwanted pregnancy helps to reduce number of maternal deaths from unsafe abortions

It helps to reduce fertility levels.

Indications - Indicated in all cases within 72 hrs of the first act of unprotected intercourse in the following conditions.

No use of any contraceptive, rape.
Tear/Slippage of condom
Failed coitus interrupts
IUD expulsion
Failure to take oral pills for more than or up to 3 days consecutively.
Guidelines for use -

ECPs should be used to prevent pregnancy following 1 st unprotected sexual intercourse within past 72 hrs. Encourage to take within 24 hrs.

First tablet should be consumed as soon as possible.

Consume second tablet 12 hrs after the 1 st dose.

The survey of married couples in reproductive age group (Eligible Couples) is done by ANM/MPW in their jurisdiction in the month of April every year. Then by the survey, it is decided to give temporary or permanent methods of contraception to eligible couples. For female beneficiaries either abdominal or laproscopic sterilization services are offered at PHC/RH/SDH on weekly/Biweekly/Daily basis. 
For males, Non Scalpel Vasectomy (NSP) is available now a days as terminal- permanent -method of sterilization

Monetary Benefits (Compensation) after adopting permanent method of sterilization (w.e.f. 1 Nov 07): -

NSV operated beneficiary gets Rs. 1100/- as a cash incentive.
- Female belonging to SC/ST/BPL category gets Rs. 600/- after abdominal/laparoscopic tubectomy.
- Female belonging to above poverty line category gets Rs. 250/- cash after tubectomy by ant method.
- While promoters/motivators (i.e. ANM/MPW/AWW/Gramsevak etc) gets Rs. 200/- & Rs. 150/- as a cash incentive upon promoting a client for vasectomy & tubectomy respectively.

Savitribai Phule Kanya Kalyan Yojana - 

Terms and Conditions:

Husband or wife should be operated for permanent sterilization (vasectomy/ tubectomy)

Client should be below poverty line (BPL)

Client should have one or two daughters, but no Son.

Benefits

After terminal sterilization on only one daughter to the client Rs. 2000/- as a cash & Rs. 8000/- in the form of National Savings certificate.

After terminal sterilization on 2 daughters Rs. 2000/- as cash incentive to the operated client & Rs. 4000/- each as National savings certificate in the name of 2 girl children.

Aim and Objective- 

To increase the proportion of female children in the community with ultimate goal of no discrimination on the basis of gender as a part of women's emancipation.

For males, Non Scalpel Vasectomy (NSP) is available now a days as terminal- permanent -method of sterilization. The male beneficiary getting operated for NSV is paid Rs. 1100/-from Govt. of India grants and Rs. 351 from Govt. of Maharashtra grants (Total Rs. 1451/- ) whether he belongs to or not the BPL/SC/ST category. While female beneficiary getting operated for abdominal or laparoscopic sterilization gets Rs. 600/- as compensation if she belongs to BPL/SC/ST category, while above poverty line beneficiary gets Rs. 250/- as compensation. While promoter (ANM/MPW/AWW/ Gramsevak etc.) for female sterilization operation gets Rs. 150/- as an incentive. If the beneficiaries gets operated on his or her own without motivation from outside, the incentive payable to the promoter are paid to the beneficiary.
