    Women and Child Development Department

    General Information

    The Centrally Sponsored Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme was first launched in Maharashtra on 2nd October, 1975 in Dharni Taluka of Amravati District, and later implemented across the entire state in phases. In Latur District, the scheme has been operational since 1980-81. Under the ICDS scheme, the beneficiaries include children in the age group of 0 to 6 years, pregnant women, lactating mothers, adolescent girls (11 to 18 years), and women aged between 15 to 45 years through various programs.

    Various Schemes and Initiatives Implemented by the Women and Child Development Department
    • Providing vocational and technical training to girls and women
    • Self-defense and physical development training programs for girls
    • Distribution of bicycles to school-going girls
    • Organizing women’s gatherings (Melava)
    • Providing legal and judicial advice to women
    • Operating counseling centers for women
    • Providing supplementary nutrition to malnourished children
    • Supplying materials to Anganwadi centers
    • Creating kitchen gardens at Anganwadi centers
    • Providing MS-CIT training to girls who have passed Class 12
    • Providing financial assistance, handcarts, and home bells to economically weak and needy women, abandoned women, and widows
