    Agriculture Department

    Introduction

India is an agrarian country, and agriculture is considered the backbone of the economy. The agriculture sector contributes 18.5% to the country’s Gross National Income. With the geometrically increasing population, agricultural production must also grow. To achieve this, it is essential to make modern agricultural technologies, improved seeds, fertilizers, tools, and crop protection chemicals available to farmers at affordable rates and in a timely manner, while creating awareness among them. With the principle of “Welfare of the many, happiness of the many,” the Agriculture Department of Zilla Parishad Latur is actively working.

Latur district comprises 10 talukas and has a geographical area of 7.15 lakh hectares, out of which 6.65 lakh hectares are cultivable. The average rainfall of Latur district is 734.55 mm. The Agriculture Development Officer heads the department. Various agricultural development schemes funded by the state, central, and Zilla Parishad are effectively implemented through the department.
