    Introduction

    India is an agricultural country and agriculture is considered the pillar of the economy. The share of the agricultural sector in the country’s gross national income is 18.5%. Considering the country’s population increasing exponentially, it is necessary to increase agricultural income.

    For this, modern agricultural technology, improved seeds, fertilizers, tools, crop protection drugs, etc. are made available to farmers at reasonable prices and at the right time. To create awareness among farmers and according to the motto of Bahujan Hitay, Bahujan Sukhay, the Agriculture Department, Zilla Parishad, Latur is working.

    Latur District Overview

    Latur district consists of a total of 10 talukas and the geographical area of the district is 7.15 lakh ha. Out of which the cultivable area is 6.65 lakh ha. The average rainfall of Latur district is 734.55 mm.

    The Agricultural Development Officer is the head of the department. Various agricultural development schemes are effectively implemented through the department from state-funded, centrally funded, and Zilla Parishad own funds.

    • Implementation of agricultural schemes at the state, central, and district levels.
    • Supply of quality seeds, fertilizers, medicines, and agricultural machinery to farmers.
    • Quality control of agricultural inputs.
    • Promotion and dissemination of new agricultural technologies.
    • Management of the Agricultural Committee meetings of the Zilla Parishad.
