Hattibet – Devarjan (Udgir Taluka)
Hattibet
Hattibet is a place located 16 km west of Udgir city in Udgir taluka of Latur district. Hattibet is considered an important religious and historical place since ancient times. It has a large collection of ancient temples, caves, and sculptures. Hattibet-Devarjan has been given the status of a regional tourist destination.
During the Marathwada Liberation War, freedom fighters fought against the Razakars here and did not let Hattibet fall into the hands of the Razakars till the end. There is a Datta Mandir and the Samadhi of Gangaram Maharaj here. Bhajans, kirtans, and sermons are organized every full moon.
Earlier, Hattibet was a barren, rocky, and uninhabited mountain. However, with the joint efforts of local villagers, administration, and various organizations, this 41-hectare mountain has been made green. Hattibet is considered a good example of environmental conservation through public participation.
