Agriculture Department
The chief work of department of agriculture of Z. P. Latur is to maintain the quality of various agriculture inputs like seeds, fertilizers & insecticides. It is a notified authority for these inputs. It is also involved in regular inspections of inputs and sends the samples of seeds, fertilizers & insecticides to the laboratories and initiates appropriate legal action in case of non-conformity to the standards accepted by the Govt.
The department is also involved in creating awareness about best practices in agriculture through farmer’s gatherings, exhibitions & field visits. It implements various programmes for the benefit of the farmer, especially distribution of agricultural equipments on subsidy. The subsidies for construction of new well (limited up to Rs. 100000/-) and to repair the old well (limited up to Rs. 50000/-) are given to the farmers of Schedule Caste & Schedule Tribes under the SCP / OTSP schemes.
Apart from these, the department of agriculture has special cell responsible for creating awareness about non-conventional energy. Z. P. Latur has taken long strides in popularising solar lamps, CFL lamps & Bio–Gas.
